Abstract EN

This is a research titled: (Those Who Are Known with the Title Al Hakim Among the Scholars of Hadith: A Statistical Descriptive Study), and it is among the hadith researches related to the science of hadith terminology (Mustalah), and it revolves around those titled Al-Hakim among the scholars of hadith.

The study conducted a descriptive statistics of a number of (26) narrators who were described to be Al-Hakim, these biographies were studied, and it became apparent that the vast majority of those who given this titled were named so because they were either appointed judges or they were deputies in the governance of a province, or the likes.

And the total number of narrators that were documented reached (17) narrators, and the total numbers of the unidentified ones (majhūlīn) reached (9) narrators, and these unidentified ones had to be ignored - based on the definition of Al-Hakim by the scholars of mustalah, because it is impossible that the Hakim who knows almost every hadith except a very few would an unidentified personality.

And the most popular person known with this title among the category of the reliable (Al-Muwathaq) is Al-Hakim Ibn Al-Bay’ Al-Naisābūrī, followed by Al-Ḥākim Abū Aḥmad Al-Kabir.

And considering the highest benchmark of memorization, we can say that there existed during the era of narration those who memorized more than a Hakim and were not attributed with this title, which shows it is a later theoretical attribute that did not conform with the practical application of the sciences of muștalah and the work of the scholats of Hadith.
