Constitutional reviews in Mauritania are mostly linked to the political conditions of a crisis nature between the ruling authority and the opposition.

Which made these revisions or amendments always emerge from the womb of a crisis of mistrust between the active political forces in the national political scene.

This had a profound impact on the constitutional mechanism governing the Mauritanian regime.

Although the current Mauritanian constitution promulgated on July 20, 1991 has so far witnessed three revisions, the subject of this study is mainly focused on the last constitutional revision adopted in 2017, in order to know what its backgrounds and political contexts are, and what it has in terms of developments, legal dimensions and political reforms.

The study concludes that the Mauritanian Constitutional Review 2017 was approved in a political context characterized by the intensity of the attraction between the political forces in Mauritania, which cast a shadow over the questioning of its legitimacy from a legal point of view, but regardless of the legal controversy that accompanied these procedures, in the end these amendments were presented It was approved by the people through a general referendum, and it included a package of reforms with a constitutional, legal, institutional, human rights, and even political dimension.
