The study of status of women in the ancient world is an important and distinctive issue, because their status did not follow the same place in all civilizations and cultures, but that in one civilization was going through different stages.

The status of women was not linked to the thought or progress of civilization, but stemmed from beliefs and Concepts have been handed down for successive generations.

In some civilizations the status of women remained unchanged, whether high or low, while other civilizations changed that status and women were able to acquire effective rights and participation in society and the best example of the status of women in Roman civilization.

Perhaps the most important characteristic of the study of the status of Roman women in particular is the unique contradiction and disparity in that status, which has fluctuated between discrimination and persecution, so that in the stages of discrimination was only apparent discrimination, but internal and clear violence against them, whether moral or physical violence.

The Roman women had always to pay for rights and privileges that were essentially and intuitively offered to Roman men, but what they paid was not only money but sacrifices and concessions much more expensive.
