For several years, Moroccan-Spanish relations have been marked by ebb and flow, and were often tense with the arrival of the Spanish right-wing party to power, to know a kind of openness with the arrival of the Socialists to power.

The legislative elections in Morocco and Spain coincided to bring to power two conservative parties: the Moroccan Justice and Development Party and the Spanish Popular Party, which prompted many observers to raise several questions about the future of bilateral relations between Rabat and Madrid due to the focus of their political discourse on the national spirit and clinging to Qatari foundations.

The Spanish-Moroccan relations in their current form are only a stage in the development of relations between the two countries, as they are considered one of the oldest relations in the world.

In this context, the Spanish historian “Maria Rosadie Madariaga” confirms that Morocco did not constitute for Spain an external political issue, but rather an internal issue.

For years it orbed all the activities and interests of the country, and guided the policy of its governments.

The Moroccan-Spanish relations are considered one of the most complex and longest historical relations compared to the Moroccan-French relations or the Moroccan-American relations, due to proximity, neighborhood and cultural interaction, in addition to determinants that are considered constants that control the bilateral relations between the two countries.
