modern linguistics theories rest on a number of linguistic terms, that enable the disepline to delineate its orientation (functional or non-functional).

these terms also allow linguistics theories to devlop still more their descriptive potential.

functional grammar theory is no exeption in this respect in that it draws on a series of linguistics terms, such as: function, paradigm, communication, discourse, text, sentence, illocutionary force, focus, conventional implicature.

these terms are not necessarity limited to this theory.

Rather they might be the result of inspiration from other linguistics theories mainly the pragmatic – based theories, in addition to the linguistic heritage, which is shape up by grammar and rhetoric.
