Abstract EN

The study of the historical dimension of cities has a big importance because it is hard to understand any city without referring to its historical background that illustrates the positive and negative sides it had in the past.

The same thing concerning the study of the locations of the cities which contributes directly in showing the aspect and the exchanged relationship between the place and the civilization level that these cities had reached and this is due to the fact that the human activity links strongly with the natural environment which surrounds him.

On this basis, we tried in this research sheet of paper to focus on Honaine city as one of the middle Maghreb cities which registered its mark and imprint in History like any other cities namely ( Nedroma, Oran and Bejaia ) which reached the top in greatness.

It was also the direction of the scientists, the traders and the handicraftsmen thanks to its strategic location which is opened to the world from the sea side and characterized by its high quality of air, soil and water.

All these factors enabled Honaine city to be an urban agglomeration where different agriculture, industrial and trade activities could be practised in.

This natural diversity of Honaine gathering between the blue and the green made from it a city that makes a direct economic relationship with its mother capital Tlemcen and thus it became a link between the North and the South and a window through which the Zianide country look out over the whole world with its trade deals with the European countries situated by the Mediterranean sea through its trade harbour.

From it and towards it the goods were being imported and exported to the opposite bank of Europe.

Besides to the prosperity that Honaine city knew, it witnessed by the beginning of the 15th century a crack and dispersal in its existence as well as destruction of its landmarks because of the Spanish occupiers greed.
