The city of Zenina is considered an important metropolis in the history of the Djelfa region throughout the ages, It is one of the oldest urban centers in the region, which was dominated by Bedouin life and nomadism, In the modern period, the city was a target for the campaigns of the men of the Ottoman authority, Most notably the attack of Bey Muhammad Al kabir, who stormed it and confiscated the wealth of its residents, in a campaign chronicled by the writer Ahmed Ibn Hattal al-Telmisani.

During the period of the French occupation, the city supported Al Emir Abdelkader, where it hosted him and provided his army with supplies, and remained loyal to him, which cost it the revenge of the French columns, and in the spring of 1846 AD, General Youssef burned it, And mass killings of its men were launched, after which the city was abandoned for a decade, During the period of great famine experienced by the Djelfa region in the aftermath of the First World War, Zawiya Zenina and its sheikh Si Abdel Qader Taheri, who played a great social role, also graduated from great scholars, perhaps the most prominent of whom were reformer Attia Massoudi, Abdel Qader Al Shatti, and Lakhdar Al Zawi.
