The teaching-learning of a foreign language must take into account the mother tongue of the learner, which represents a reference language for him.
starting from this principle and from the reality of classroom practices in which the partners (teacher and learners) often resort to this type of code switching, our study proposes to seek the forms, functions and impact of this practice on the teaching-learning process of French in higher education.
in order to achieve our objectives, we have analyzed the oral production activities of two groups of French undergraduate students, who deal with the same themes using two different methods.
the results obtained show that the use of the mother tongue, which manifests itself in the classroom in different forms and can have various functions, is a useful and essential practice for the teacher and the learner in the context of multilingualism.

L'enseignement-apprentissage d'une langue étrangère doit prendre en compte la langue maternelle de l'apprenant qui lui représente une langue de référence.
en partant de ce principe et de la réalité des pratiques de classe dont les partenaires (enseignant et apprenants) font souvent recours à ce type d'alternance codique, notre étude se propose de chercher les formes, les fonctions et l'impact de cette pratique sur le processus d'enseignement-apprentissage du français au supérieur.
afin d'atteindre nos objectifs, nous avons analysé des activités de production orale de deux groupes d'étudiants de licence de français, qui traitent des mêmes thèmes selon deux méthodes différentes.
les résultats obtenus montrent que le recours à la langue maternelle, qui se manifeste en classe selon différentes formes et peut avoir des fonctions diverses, est une pratique utile et essentielle pour l'enseignant et l'apprenant dans le cadre du plurilinguisme.
