Abstract EN

The character of Dallington Maftaa, who is of Malay origin, is considered one of the most important figures who was credited with king Buganda Mutesa I (1856-1884 AD) for his very great services to the king.

in languages other than the local language, Maftaa was fluent in a group of them, such as Arabic, Swahili, and English.

Dallington was the one who wrote King Mutesa's letters in which he responded to most of the messages he received, and Dallington's role was not limited to this; rather, he taught the king the alphabets of other languages, as well as teaching him the principles of Christianity, which he learned in Zanzibar, and thus Dallington is considered one of the important figures in the history of the Buganda Kingdom.
