Abstract EN

The aim of the current paper is to identify the status and view of women as reflected in the popular proverbs in Assiut governorate through the analytical study of many popular proverbs in the community research (village of Arab Mutair in Assiut governorate).

the sample was represented in 28 informants using the anthropological approach based on participatory observation.

a guide to collecting popular proverbs and analyzing their content to be applied on the informants, was prepared by the researcher.

the research reached many results, first and foremost of which came the extent of the importance and status of popular proverbs in the study community as a major part of culture and folklore.

also, it was revealed that the majority of popular proverbs indicated by study sample decrease the dignity and status of woman and its character, as she does not bear the family name and is not considered an extension of it, it was also found the extent of compliance by members of society with these proverbs in dealing with woman and her status.
