The research aims to study the impact of the developed surface irrigation on the production of the maize crop in Dakahlia Governorate.

The research was based on questionnaire data for a research sample, for farms using the developed surface irrigation in the cultivation of the maize crop in Dakahlia Governorate.


The results showed: a decrease in the amount of water needed to irrigate the maize crop feddan, by the developed irrigation method, by a decrease of about 58.7% , compared to that which depends on the traditional irrigation method, which led to a decrease in the total variable costs, with a decrease about 12.2% , for maize crop which depend on the developed irrigation method, compared to counterpart that depend on the traditional irrigation method.


It was also shown that the acre productivity of maize crop based on the developed irrigation method increased, with an increase of about 3% , compared to the same ones that depend on the traditional irrigation method, which led to an increase in the total revenue, by an increase of about 3% for maize crop compared to counterpart that depend on the traditional irrigation method.

It also showed an increase in the net yield per acre, with an increase of about 48.8% that depend on the developed irrigation method, compared to those that depend on the traditional irrigation method.


Through the results of the research, it was possible to suggest:
1- Encouraging Graduates to cultivate new lands using modern irrigation methods, especially drip irrigation because of its importance in saving water.


2- Increasing the role of extension, by defining the importance of applying modern irrigation systems, developed irrigation, especially in light of the high economic efficiency and productivity, for crops that depend on developed irrigation, compared to the traditional surface irrigation system.


3- Tightening the penalty for farmers who resort to the traditional irrigation method.


4- Develop new strains of maize crop can withstand water scarcity and salinity
