Abstract EN

Criticism is considered the most important motive that leads to literary creativity, whose artistic forms and intellectual and cultural purposes are developed, and its analytical methods are varied.

Still, every poetic or prose creation has faced creative criticism throughout the ages.

Throughout the distant ages, literature would not have prospered without being accompanied by criticism.

Literary criticism has evolved through various methods, such as appreciative reading, contextual methodologies and axiomatic ones (textuality).

Structuralism is one of the modern critical approaches in Arab criticism through acculturation, translation and studying abroad.

That cultural dialogue contributed to the emergence of the authenticity and modernity problem (Arab - West), (Ego -Other).

Some scholars rejected it initially; others tried to apply it in creative text analysis, and another group tried to re-establish it according to the Arab culture.

The present study seeks to answer the following questions: What is structuralism? How did the Arab critics receive it, and what is their position towards it? Moreover, it aims at defining structure, structuralism, and formal structuralism while mentioning the structural approach's characteristics, structural criticism's approach, the author’s death statement, formative structuralism and finally, structuralism according to the Arabs and their position on it.
