Abstract EN

The development of Egyptian water resources requires national plans in order to take advantage of what is available and search for non-traditional sources to irrigate agricultural crops in the new lands, which highlights the importance of rationalizing the use of water resources.

Through the study of the efficiency indicators of irrigation systems (drip, surface irrigation) and the study of indicators of productive and economic merit, in addition to the problems facing the farmers of each irrigation system used in the new lands for the productivity of summer sesame, using descriptive and quantitative analysis, using secondary and other primary data.

Obtained from a phased (multi-purpose) random sample of 100 holders.

The results of the study showed an increase in the amount of irrigation water used in surface irrigation, at a rate of about 566.6% over drip irrigation.

It was also found that the water losses used for the surface irrigation system increased with an increase rate of 293.1% over the average drip irrigation.

The efficiency of the irrigation system decreased in the case of surface irrigation, at a rate of 25% compared to the drip irrigation system.

The total revenue per acre in surface irrigation decreased at a rate of 21.2% compared to the drip irrigation system, and the net yield per acre in the surface irrigation system decreased at a rate of about 10.9% compared to the drip irrigation system, as the statistical significance of this variable was proven.

By studying the productive obstacles faced by the farmers (drip irrigation), it became clear that the most important of these obstacles is the possibility of clogging the droplet holes with sediments and salts.

It was in the first place with a rate of about 89%, and for surface irrigation, it was found that the problem of the amount of lost water is very large in the first place, reaching rate of about 96%.

Recommendations: 1.

Work to intensify effective agricultural extension programs to familiarize farmers with the benefits of drip irrigation in new lands and the disadvantages of surface irrigation.

Motivating farmers to convert the surface irrigation system to drip irrigation by providing soft loans and involving the farmer in the irrigation development project.

Imposing penalties on every farmer in the new lands who does not follow the modern irrigation system
