Abstract EN

Despite the existence of many agreements and African Regional economic communities and the existence of trade advantages such as lower customs traffic on the movement of goods, However, the African continent is still at a late stage of economic integration, which has negatively affects trade exchange between African countries.

With the move towards achieving one of the continent’s steps in economic integration, On June 10, 2015 in Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, the Tripartite Free Trade Agreement (TFTA) was signed between the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the East African Community (EAC), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), during the summit hosted at Sharm elSheikh, which is considered an important step towards economic integration in the African continent.

The research aimed mainly to identify the impact of Egypt’s signing of TFTA by studying the total and agricultural trade between Egypt and the countries of the region during the period (2010-2018) using the Gravity model.

The results of the study show that the value of total trade between Egypt and most of TFTA agreements countries has achieved and actual situation better than that hoped by ratio ranged between 15.52% in the case of Sudan as a minimum level, and 99.33% in the case of Libya as a maximum level.

In the case of the value of agricultural trade the ratios arranged between 27.41% in the case of Zambia as a minimum level and 99.67% in the case of Libya as a maximum level.

The study recommended: Activating the Tripartite Free Trade Agreement (TFTA) to enhance trade and economic integration and reduce the effect of overlapping membership in COMESA, EAC and SADC, which as a major reason for slowing down and complicating the process of economic integration the necessity for continuing Egyptian governmental efforts to develop economic and trade relations with content of African communities to increase the Egyptian presence in the African arena
