Abstract EN

The main objective of this research was to study the investment efficiency of olive farms in South Sinai governorate, through achieving some sub-objectives, the most important of which are: (1) Study and analysis of the production indicators of olive crop at the general level, deserts and South Sinai governorate during the study period.

(2) Study and analysis of the cost and income structure of the olive crop in South Sinai governorate.

(3) Study of the investment efficiency of the olive crop in South Sinai.

(4) Study and analysis of the problems facing olive crop production in South Sinai governorate.

The research derived its importance from the economic, social and environmental importance of the olive crop in general and in South Sinai governorate in particular.

The research reached several results, the most important of which are: (1) There was a statistically significant annual increase in the area of fruitful olives at the level of the Republic and both the deserts and the governorates of South Sinai by 5.47, 0.522 and 0.481 thousand feddans respectively during the study period.

(2) There was a statistically significant annual increase in the total production of olives at the level of the Republic and both the governorates of the deserts and the governorate of South Sinai by about 21.64 0.704 and 0.91 thousand tons respectively during the study period.

(3) The decrease of feddan productivity of olives in South Sinai governorate compared to the average feddan productivity at both Sahara and Republic governorates by 37.60% and 0.62% for the average study period.

(4) The feasibility of investment for the olive crop in South Sinai governorate, where the net present value of cash flows reached about 12.07 thousand pounds, P/C about 1.44, while the internal rate of return was about 29%.

(5) The feasibility of investment for olive crop in South Sinai governorate according to the three-sensitivity analysis: increase of annual operating costs, decrease of annual revenues, increase of operating costs and decrease of annual revenues together by 10%.

(6) There are many problems facing olive producers in South Sinai.

The research ended with several recommendations which may help in promoting the cultivation and production of olive crop in South Sinai.
