Paganism is the worship of the gods.

The position of the Byzantine state towards pagans differed after the official recognition of Christ during the reign of Theodosius I(376-395AD) at the end of the fourth century AD.

However, it was not easy to eradicate the traditions and manifestations of paganism that lasted for more than a thousand years.

The emperors issued several decrees that included prohibiting pagan practices, closing temples, arresting pagans, confiscating their property, and harassing those who practice their rituals.

The wave of fighting paganism and eliminating it reached its peak in the sixth century AD.

The study deals with these issues, explaining the clash between Christians and pagans, and the Byzantine emperors' position on paganism in general in the sixth century AD.
