Flax is the main and only source of fiber and the most important industrial crop for textiles in Egypt in the Middle Ages.
The economic importance of flax is due to superiority over fiber crops to its use for two purposes: extracting edible oil from seeds, and from the bark fibers that are used in making textiles.
