This study was carried out to evaluate the Antihyperglycemic effects of pomegranate (Punica granatum), banana (Musa paradisiaca) and orange (Citrus sinensis) peels as powder on male diabetic rats.

Forty male mature albino rats weighing 150-160g.

were used, divide into 8 equal groups, each group contain 5 rats, one was kept as a control –ve group, while the other groups were injected by alloxan (150mg/kg body weight).

The tested fruit peels powders were given to the rats as a percent of 2.5% and 5% from the Basil diet.

At the end of the experiment, biochemical analyzes were performed liver functions (Alanine aminotransferase - Aspartate transaminase - Alkaline Phosphatase), Kidney functions (creatinine, uric acid and urea), total protein, total cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein, low density lipoprotein and very low-density lipoprotein were assessed.

The results showed that the group of diabetic rats had reduced glucose levels, liver function and kidney function when fed on 5% of orange, banana and pomegranate peels with significant differences (P≤0.05) Groups of rats fed with fruit peels had the lowest levels of cholesterol and triglycerides, in addition to the lowest levels of low-density lipoprotein, and very low-density lipoprotein with significant differences.

The group fed 5% of orange, bananas and pomegranates peels had the highest levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol.

The lowest levels were found in the groups fed 2.5% of orange, banana and pomegranate peels, with significant differences(P≤0.05) As conclusion, all biochemical analyses, particularly glucose levels, improve with a 5% orange peel.
