Although Egypt ranks fourth in the world in the export of onions, its exports have been characterized by fluctuation and instability from year to year, so this research aimed to study the competitiveness of Egyptian exports of onions in its most important importing markets to determine how to maintain these markets and increase Egyptian exports to them.

the most important research findings were the Egyptian exports of onions cover almost the whole year, and that they are geographically concentrated in a limited number of countries, where about 76.3% of the amounts of Egyptian exports of onions are concentrated in only six countries: Saudi Arabia, Russian federation, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Emirates, and Kuwait.

Egypt enjoyed a revealed comparative advantage in exporting onions, with an average of about 17.1.

Egypt ranked first in the export of onions and in the rate of penetration into the markets of Saudi Arabia, Russian federation, and Netherlands during the period (2010-2020), while it ranked second in the Kuwait market, and ranked fourth in United Kingdom and emirates.

the market share and market penetration rate of Egypt increased between the two periods (2010-2014) and (2016-2020), which indicates an increase in Egypt’s competitiveness in recent years in all these markets except for the Kuwait market.

it was found that Egypt did not enjoy any price competitive advantage in its most important foreign markets except for the Russian market.
