The Onomastics is considered as a science that linguistics has coined.

It seems to be linked to a multiple of other sciences like Sociology, Dialectology, History and Literature...

According to the plethora of researches which have studied its characteristics and relationship with the sciences adjacent to it, the Onomastics accumulates a system of accurate terminologies.

The present paper seeks to display the most important functions that the Onomastics has performed.

Thanks to the evolution of Linguistics, this science can establish strong links with literary genres.

And because of its concerns and multidisciplinary, it has become possible to talk about "the Onomastics of the novel", "the Onomastics of the poetry" and "the Onomastics of the drama"...

Briefly, this paper aims to highlight its major types and obvious approaches to the literary texts - be it poetry or prose -, making use of the linguistic achievement in particular.
