Rousseau’s concept of an education system is based on the basic principle that human nature is good and that human nature is the root of all good.

This position contradicts the position adopted by the English philosopher Hobbes, most of the eighteenth-century men, the clergy, and the church.

Also, the educational tradition prevailing at that time emphasized the importance of uprooting evil from the human soul, hence, education provided the means of authoritarianism, power and oppression.

Contrary to this miserable and pessimistic vision of human nature, Rousseau believed in the goodness of nature and advocated the necessity of directing education and its actions according to the requirements of the child’s natural inclinations in order to ensure growth according to nature’s purpose embodied by free education.

In light of this difference of philosophical origin, this work attempts to shed light on some of the philosophical foundations of Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s natural education theory.
