In the Arab-Islamic culture, the concept of the profane did not go beyond the circle of meaning used by the Arabs since their ancient ages and was delineated by their dictionaries on the basis of what was entrenched in the religious and cultural matrices of the meanings of impurity and demonization that taint honor and morals; meanings that continued to be rooted in patterns of thinking and religiosity and traditional conservative ways of living under the pretext of preserving the identity that is threatened by modernity accused, out of ignorance, of fighting religion and desecrating its sanctities to the extent of restoring the old Islamic jihad system to fight those who differed religiously, doctrinally, or ideologically.

This is one of the phenomena that has become aggravated in most Arab and Islamic societies with the spread of aspects of religious extremism and the penalization, atoning and killing of the violators, being deemed as a victory for what is imagined as a pure sacred Islam that pervades the world.
