Abstract EN

The study aimed to identify the criteria and methods for choosing a spouse for marriage among a sample of Sudanese university students.

The researcher followed the descriptive approach, and the sample was selected by the simple random sampling method.

The sample size consisted of 208 students in Sudanese universities in Khartoum State.

For the data collection, the researcher used the primary data form and interview questions from prepared by him.

The collected data were processed by Excel spreadsheet program by means of frequencies and percentages, and the study came out with several results, the most prominent of which are included below.

The religiousness and good morals criterion prevails by 61.5%; the free choice method prevails by 71.6%; the free choice method for females prevails by 50.9%; the religiousness and good morals criterion for females prevails with a percentage of 35.5%; the free-choice method for general admission students prevails at a rate of 54.8%; and the criteria of religiousness and good morals for general admission students prevails at a rate of 46.7%; the free-choice method for students prevails in the case of parents living together with a percentage of 66.8%; the religiousness and good morals criterion for students in the case of parents living together prevails by 58.6%; and the free-choice method for students coming from other states prevails by 16.5%.

The money standard for students in the capital – Khartoum State – prevails by 21.3%.

The study also included a number of recommendations, most notably: activating the role of psychological and marital counseling for those who are about to marry and qualifying them for a successful marital life.
