Abstract EN

This research aimed to investigate the general characteristic of behavioral problems and the quality of life among the mentally disabled at special needs centers in Khartoum State and to find out the correlation between these two variables and to identify the differences in behavioral problems among the mentally disabled according to variables of gender and type of disability at special needs centers in Khartoum State.

The researcher adopted the correlative descriptive approach.

The study sample consisted of 100 mentally disabled people (60 male and 40 female participants).

They were selected using the simple sampling method.

Two measuring scales were applied for data collection: the behavioral problems scale designed by Al-Dhahiri, 2018, and the quality-of-life scale designed by Kajur, 2010.

The data collected was processed using the: Pearson coefficient, single sample T-test, two independent samples T-test and the analysis of variance (ANOVA).

The research revealed the results the following summarized below.

Firstly, behavioral problems among the mentally disabled at special needs centers in Khartoum State were high while, on the other hand their quality of life was low.

Secondly, there was an inverse correlation between behavioral problems and the quality of life.

There were no differences in behavioral problems among the mentally disabled at special needs centers in Khartoum State according to the variables of gender and type of disability.

Also, the results indicated that there was a statistically significant correlation between the degree of disability and the quality of life on the behavioral problems among the mentally disabled.

In conclusion, the researcher provided some recommendations, such as: using the appropriate educational methods with the mentally disabled that would help them develop normal behaviors and achieve effectiveness in the milieu in which they live.

He also recommended satisfying the psychological, physical and social needs of the mentally disabled in a way that would make them adopt normal behaviors, and providing physical and social requirements of life in a way that helps them improve their quality of life.
