Abstract EN

The study examined the decorative elements of the Umayyad architecture and aimed at identifying the cultural and artistic level that prevailed in that period.

The selection of decorative elements in the Umayyad palaces was of artistic, aesthetic and historical importance.

The study adopted descriptive historical method, field visits to the sites of these palaces and the Amman Museum, where decorative units of the palaces were displayed.

The study concluded that the existing decorative units belong to pre-Islamic arts.

The Muslim artist developed the arts that influenced them and made them available to the Islamic character.

This was aided by the availability of raw materials.

The study recommended increasing studies focusing on the Arab-Islamic cultural heritage.

Recommended the restoration of looted cultural monuments.
