La théorie de la démonstration dans l’épitre fi ma‘na ’Analutiqa t-taniyati (Sur le sens de l’Analitique postérieure)‎ des Frères de la Pureté (’Ihwanu s-Safa’i)‎

Abstract EN

The first part of this article presents some introductory ideas to the study of Aristotle’ Second Analytics in the Islamic West, following the bibliography utilized for this article and trying to trace a history of the perception on the content of this subject and of the manner of conceiving the theory of demonstration in this very space.

This aspect will be presented through a methodological paradigm, as an answer to the question: ‟How was the theory of demonstration perceived in relation to logic in the Islamic West?”.

In this way, by clarifying this answer, we intend to provide an historical synthesis of the theory of demonstration in the attempt to integrate it into the discipline of the history of theoretical philosophy written in Classical Arabic in the Xth century A.D.

The second part of the article is focused on showing the role that the logic written by the Brethren of Purity had within the discipline of Classical logic written in Classical Arabic in the Xth century A.D.

By respecting the ideas of the conference Philosophy in the Islamic West: Philosophers and less-known works, 25-26 April 2019, Marrakech, we wanted to bring to light1 the content of the epistle Fī ma‘nā ’Anālūṭīqā ṯ-ṯāniyati2 of the first section Ar-rasā’ilu r-riyāḍiyyatu [The Epistles [on the] MSciences]] from the encyclopaedia The Epistles of the Brethren of Purity [Rasā’ilu ’Iḫwāni ṣ-Ṣafā’i] that was transmitted to the West by al-Kirmānī of Córdoba3 and was known by the Latin medieval world as being written by al-Kindī, or, utilizing other sources, such as al-Fārābī.4 The last part of the article corresponds to a reflection on the theoretical dimension of the demonstration written in Classical Arabic which is present within the writing of the Brethren of Purity and identifies the practical utility of this theory developed by them in their writing.

The objective of such an endeavor was to remove the veil that was left on their theory on logic.

La première partie de la communication est une introduction à l’étude de l’Analytique Postérieure d’Aristote dans l’Occident islamique, en essayant de tracer une histoire de la perception du contenu de ce sujet, et de la manière de conçevoir la théorie de la démonstration dans cet espace.

Cet aspect va être abordé de manière méthodologique, comme une réponse à la question: Comment a été perçue la théorie de la démonstration liée à la logique dans l’Occident islamique? Ainsi, en clarifiant cette réponse, nous aurons pu décrire une synthèse sur l’histoire de cette théorie en essayant de l’intégrer dans la discipline de l’histoire de la philosophie théorique écrite en arabe classique dans le Xe siècle AD.

La deuxième partie de la communication se concentre sur l’exposé du rôle de la logique des Frères de la Pureté dans la discipline de la logique arabe1 et, en suivant la voie de ce colloque, nous allons jeter une lumière2 sur le contenu de l’épître Fï ma ‘na ’Analütïqa t-taniyati [Sur le sens de l’Analitique Postérieure]3 de la première section Ar-rasa ’ilu r-riyadiyyatu [Les épîtres sur les sciences mathématiques] de leur oeuvre encyclopédique Les Épîtres [Rasa ’il] qui a été transmise à l’Occident par al-Kirmânl de Cordue (ar.

Qurtubata)4 et connu par le monde latin médiéval comme avoir été écrite par al-Kindï, ou en suivant la voie d’autres sources même d’al-Fârâbï.

La dernière partie de la communication correspond à une réflexion sur la logique de la démonstration écrite en langue arabe classique présente dans cette écriture des Frères de la Pureté et identifie l’utilité pratique de cette théorie qui leur appartient, fait qui aide à reprendre le voile de l’oublie assis sur leur théorie de logique.
