Abstract EN

This concise study discusses traditional approaches of city planning and explains their contribution to solve some current urban problems such as energy consumption.

Analyzing city beautiful movement, garden city pattern, sustainability, and smart city concept as the most influential paradigms in resolving urban issues of today's cities.

Each model presented independently to clarify its characteristics, applicability within the urban planning domain to know which appropriate pattern of city planning that suits environment; sustainability and energy consuming.

The study concludes the importance of classic approaches of city planning in tackling some of important urban issues, and suggest some crucial indicators to continue applying it.
