The researcher dealt with the literary genre of al-Maqama, which was originated at Badi' al-Zaman al-Hamadani and evolved at the hands of al-Hariri and others.

the researcher discussed the characteristics of this genre, the conditions of its emergence, its competition with the function of poetry, and the efforts of its authors across the ages to expose the social and cultural structure of the Abbasid era through building a group of satirical stories based on Kiddiya (begging).

these satirical stories weave their strings through the duality of the narrator and the protagonist.

the researcher also investigated the development of the genre through the ages to the modern Arabic renaissance and how it affected the picaresque novel and the hebrew Maqama.

the research uses the descriptive method to clarify the dialectic of the relationship between prose and poetry in al-Maqama as a literary genre.
