Abstract EN

This research aims to study an essential issue that appeared in the Diwan of Imam al-Shafi’i, which is the employment of animals’ names and attributes in his poetry.

It was a prominent phenomenon, worthy of standing on it, studying it and analyzing it.

perhaps the large number of poetic proofs in which the animal was employed indicates this.

so many animals were mentioned in his poetry, and each had a special symbolism, a fixed connotation, and an artistic value.

a group of animals was also repeated and not others and al-Shafi'i’ depending on them appeared a lot in his poetic works.

the research methodology was based on listing the poetic stanzas in which these animals appeared, analyzing them, revealing their connotations, and clarifying their symbolism and artistic value by linking them to the thought of al-Shafi’i, and their poetic goals.

to achieve this, it was necessary to identify some of the artistic phenomena and methods that had an important role in clarifying and highlighting the meaning and revealing the poet’s intentions from it.

such as antithesis, metonymy, metaphor, simile, among others.

the research concluded with a set of results, which is one of the parts of studying and analyzing al-Shafi’i poetry.
