Abstract EN

The research seeks to develop a strategic framework to enhance the protection of urban heritage sites in the libyan state, due to the deterioration, destruction, tampering and distortion of these sites as a result of multiple factors, some of which are due to the state of security instability, and others are related to shortcomings in the role and responsibility of the competent authorities in the state.

the study adopts an analytical theoretical approach, which relies on the descriptive desk-documentary method, addressing the concepts of managing and protecting urban heritage sites, and its various dimensions, and touching on the importance of urban heritage sites as a basis and resource, and as a national value for local and international communities to preserve cultural identity and economic development the research also deals with an illustrated presentation of the Libyan sites inscribed on the world heritage list, with an indication of the criteria according to which these sites were included in the world heritage list.

the study also offers an analytical account on the libyan historical sites included in the world heritage list during the last six years (2014-2020) together with the role of the Libyan antiquities authority and unesco in dealing with the data that libya is experiencing during this period and its reflection in preserving the cultural heritage enjoyed by the Libyan state.
