Abstract EN

This study aims to recognize the mediating role of emotional cognitive organization strategies between suicidal thinking and neurotic perfection among sample group of female students enrolled in King Abdul Aziz University.

It further aims to uncover the correlation between suicidal thinking and neurotic perfection among members of the sample group; and the correlation between emotional cognitive organization strategies and neurotic perfection among members of the sample group.

Sample group was composed of 350 female students enrolled in all colleges and faculties affiliated to King Abdul Aziz University.

Members of the sample group were randomly selected.

The study employed the descriptive methodology.

The researcher used the following tools: Scale of Suicidal Thinking (Fayed، 2008) and Scale of Neurotic Perfection (Shanad, Abdul Moneim, Salheen, 2017), together with a questionnaire about the emotional cognitive organization strategies (Granefski, Kraaik, 2006) (translated by Al-Menshawi, 2015).

Upon statistical processing, the study has concluded a number of findings summarized as follows.

A low level of suicidal thinking has been detected among members of the sample group.

An average level of neurotic perfection has also been detected among members of the sample group.

Partial mediation has been achieved for the variable of 'Non-adaptive strategies' between the suicidal thinking and neurotic perfection، where the incorporeal effect of suicidal thinking on neurotic perfection had not vanished in the presence of the mediator.

Nevertheless، weakness of its influence out of value (Beta = 0.287) to the value of (Beta = 0.113) has statistical indication at the indication level of (0.05) among members of the sample group.

The study also revealed direct correlation with statistical indication at the indication level of (0.01) between suicidal thinking and neurotic perfection among members of the sample group.

In addition، the study revealed reversed correlation at the indication level at (0.01) between suicidal thinking and the total mark of adaptive strategies and direct correlation with statistical indication at the indication level of (0.01) between suicidal thinking and total mark of non-adaptive strategies.

Similarly، the study revealed no statistical correlation has been detected between suicidal thinking and total mark of emotional cognitive organization strategies among members of the sample group.

A reversed correlation with statistical indication at the indication level of (0.01) has been detected between neurotic perfection and adaptive strategies.

A direct correlation with statistical indication at the indication level of (0.01) between neurotic perfection and non-adaptive strategies and the total mark of emotional cognitive organization strategies.

The study has concluded a number of recommendations.

Following are the most important ones.

Early detection of suicidal thinking among university students is necessary to avoid committing suicide by synergy of counseling centers and those concerned with education process.

The study further recommends university counseling centers to raise awareness of the dangers affiliated to neurotic perfection and the leading suicidal thoughts; and to provide preventive and therapeutic programs for neurotic perfection.
