Abstract EN

This paper aims at presenting a critical analysis of the concept of causation as powers, to clarify concept’s structure, and its relation with order, connectivity, necessity, determinism, powers, dispositions, and capacities.

The paper tries to explore the reality of causal structures: whether it is a phenomenal relation that can be observed on the macroscopic level? Or whether it is a real property of things related to the things’ dispositions, capacities, or powers? How would causation be related to chance and necessity? And, when and how we can differentiate real causal relations from secondary ones who happens by mere chance? Hence, this paper aims at answering such questions, through discussing the classical concept of causation versus that presented by Nancy Cartwright and Stephen Mumford, to understand the changes in the concept of causation as powers or capacities.
