The citizenship is one of the important issues that nowadays occupies the interest of researchers and experts from different knowledge fields, such as politics, sociology, religion, media, etc.

This interest is not limited to one context without another, but the value of citizenship is present in almost all modern human societies.

The western vision on this moral and social value intersects with the vision of the Islamic religion.

Therefore, this article is written to approximate the topic of citizenship both conceptual and historical.

This article is divided into three sections.

Firstly, the concept citizenship is defined both in Islamic and Arabic, and western terminology.

Secondly, a comparison is made between the value of citizenship in the Islamic religion and western thought on historical and intellectual level.

Finally, the citizenship is discussed as a practical mechanism in the modern multicultural contexts to stimulate community cohesion and dispel the mutual phobia between the various components of society.
