Abstract EN

The phenomenon of violence has come to manifest itself in various complex forms in the Moroccan public school.

with the enormous societal and economic transformations that occurred in the Moroccan society, the status of school as a potent springboard for personal, social, and economic development remains increasingly in decline.

what is at issue, however, is that the question of violence in school continues to be attributed exclusively to the adolescent student as the sole source of this violence, without taking into consideration other fundamental components of the educational system the institution.

more specifically, despite the vast array of studies on the issue of violence in school, we still lack a holistic approach that tackles this phenomenon without focusing solely up on the legal or disciplinary measures but also looks at symbolic forms of violence exerted by the school as an institutional structure up on the student.

it is also imperative to consider the educational processes and conditions together with the behavior of the entire body of school staff to acquire a thorough understanding of this phenomenon.

with all these elements in view, the present study investigates the symbolic violent practices exercised by the institution of school upon the Moroccan adolescent student, and what are the defense mechanisms adopted by the latter to cope with this situation.
