Abstract EN

This paper presents an attempt to deconstruct the theoretical legacy accumulated over a century that researchers have spent in studying intangible cultural heritage; Looking for the reasons for why these studies stopped at the stage of classical theories in analysis, far from modern approaches that appear as bubbles trying to take a different angle of analysis but its work does not continue for a long period for several reasons, perhaps the most important of which in the Arab world is the difficulty of the theory which did not strive to simplifying it and presenting evidence for the issues it raises.

Consequently, a limited number of specialists followed its path, and the largest number loathed its way.

What we present here is an illumination of a theory or an intellectual trend that has found its place in the world since the second half of the twentieth century, our proposal also includes a call to review the state of intellectual tranquility upon which studies depended on.

Through applied examples from the areas of habits, beliefs and traditional knowledge.

A science that studies human culture must evolve and multiply its methods, theories and angles of vision.

Postmodernity presents a vision that involves criticism of generalization and holistic views, so “postmodernity" came as a call similar to “return to nature" calls, and the application of postmodernity trend to the field of intangible heritage is an attempt to create interpretation mechanisms within the group’s values.
