Abstract EN

This study examines the concept and historical development of Quran ten modes of recitation, trying to answer as to whether this term was common among predecessors and when it actually emerged.

The significance of the study derives from the consecutiveness of Quran ten modes of recitation, the deep interest of both predecessors and successors such recitations and the growing need of Quran teachers to a deeper understanding of recitation various terms.

The study is organized into an introduction and three other sections.

The first section presents a historical account of Quran recitation modes.

The Quran ten minor recitation modes are discussed in the second section.

The third section deals with the ten major modes of reciting Quran.

It was found that the term for Quran ten minor and major modes of recitation was a recent development and that there was a difference between the terms used by eastern and western scholars with reference to Quran modes of recitation.
