The research paper aims to identify the role of environmental awareness in the success of reverse supply chains and its contribution to achieving effective waste management at the end of its life cycle, and changing its stereotype to being an exploitable wealth in order to achieve both economic and environmental goals.

the research started from the premise that the process of building environmental awareness requires the integration of the roles of the parties involved in the chain, while the success of the reverse supply chains contributes to achieving effective waste management.

the study was an analysis of the reality of the application of reverse supply chains in Algeria, with an analysis of the level of environmental awareness of the consumer and the economic establishment together.

the research reached a set of results that confirmed that activating the role of environmentally conscious consumers in particular is an imperative to ensure the success of the reverse supply chain activities, which is the absent culture at the level of Algerian society, while the signs of its application in Algerian institutions remain far away due to the absence of this awareness itself.
