Abstract EN

In attempting to reveal the answer posed by different Arabic traditions to the question of whether there is an authentic and comprehensive theory of criticism, the present work aims at investigating how ancient Arab critics pictured the process of receiving different artistic texts.

this work starts from the assumption that ancient Arabic criticism was rhetorical in nature and one which relied heavily on the duality of (rhetoric-criticism).

this enables us to delve into a notable example of Arabic rhetorical and critical traditions by Ibn Hajjah; the vault of literature and the end of aims " in a completely new way under guidance from modern theories of perception.

this criticism aims at revealing the features of perception related to the receiver, his conceptualization of the act of reading, his own role in the process of creativity as well as the different characteristics of a literary text.
