Abstract EN

The study aimed at figuring out the methods mothers treat the mentally handicapped children on a sample of (99) at the psycho-pedagogical center, tennis, Chlef, relying on the descriptive method and applying Qudeih scale (2019) for parental treatment methods- mother's image.

the study concluded that the guiding method is in a high degree, being the most common among the methods of treating mentally handicapped children by mothers.

it is followed by both the punitive method and the love withdrawing method ranked in an average degree.

the study has equally found that there were no differences in the methods of treating the mentally handicapped children due to both the handicapped child gender variable and the mothers’ age.

whereas, there were statistically significant differences due to the variables of the mothers’ educational level and the family economic level.

the study recommended that guiding programs have to be elaborated by psychologists to ameliorate the true treatment methods and to modify the mothers’ false treatment methods toward the mentally handicapped children.
