This paper deals with the topic: "rural tourism in the Auras mountains region", which is regarded as one of the strategic areas in Algeria, due to its geographical location, its mountains peaks height, the diversity of its flora, its ancient history, its inhabitants' heritage and the diversity of its relics that extend from prehistory to modern and contemporary era.

it is not easy to discuss rural tourism in a mountainous region the size of the Auras mountains unless the researcher is equipped with anthropological fossils of the region, and this is what will be presented in this paper, by defining the Auras region and determining the archaeological, natural and human attributes for the development of rural tourism in the region.

these mountainous areas: Oued Ghoufi, Oued el-Abiod, Oued Abdi and Timgad are study cases.

in order to demonstrate the tourism diversity in the Auras region, plains and steppes were also studied, such as Khenchela, Ras el Aioun and N'gaous, etc.
