Abstract EN

The study aims to analyze the training programs used for library science and documentation students at the university of Constantine 2, in order to investigate the extent of their contribution to building professional identity and the extent to which educational courses cover modern professions in the field of information and libraries.

the study follows both the survey and comparative methods, in addition to the information professions report issued in 2021 by José university in the united states of America as a checklist and its application to library and archive specialization programmes.

the results of the study indicated that despite the fact that the institute of library science and documentation are up-to-date with the current developments alongside making continuous adjustments to the training programs, the specialization for managing library work or archival techniques which qualifies for more than one professional identity that plays any role in various types of libraries and documentation centers, unlike international universities, as we found that they provide training programs that qualify for specific roles such as : digital project management specialist or data management and others.

based on the aforementioned, the study suggests reconsidering the strategy of developing training programs offered by the institute of library science and documentation with an in-depth study of the job market and the needs of libraries of all kinds.
