Abstract EN

Since 2001, Algeria has resorted to implementing a supporting aggregate demand policy through the expansion of public spending in order to achieve a set of objectives, the most important of which are economic development and the reduction of unemployment through job creation.

In this regard, the purpose of this study is to examine the impact of the country's public spending policies on employment and unemployment from 2001 to 2019.

Through what was presented, we came to the conclusion that expanding public spending as a main direction of economic policy in Algeria for nearly two decades was not a correct one, because it failed to establish a long-term growth and development path for the most important economic performance indicators in general (the GDP growth) The performance of the labor market, which is the subject of the study (the employment and unemployment indicators), and the reasons for this are mainly due to the national economy's weak productive capacity, a situation that resulted in an increase in aggregate demand, which was reflected in a rise in prices, and leakage through imports.
