Further to the legislative function regarding voting on draft laws, the Parliament has another function represented in the control exercised over the Government in managing public affairs in adherence to constitutional and legal articles.

This parliamentary control is displayed as special legal mechanisms for discussing the action plan of the Government, the general policy statement, the Finance Act, the Budget Adjustment Act, hearings of members of Government, oral and written questions raised by members of Parliament to ministers, interpellation, temporary fact-finding missions, in addition to inquiry committees.

Some of these control mechanisms result in sanctions on the Government, as in a censure motion which leads to the dissolution of the Government if agreed to during a discussion of deputies of the People’s National Assembly of a general policy statement.

By contrast, there are other control mechanisms devoid of such a feature, not leading to sanctions on the Government, such as written and oral questions raised by members of Parliament to members of Government.
