Like the countries of the world, Algeria has the right to integrate into the world market and to participate in the promotion of a fair, balanced and transparent international trading system.

On 18 December 1962, Algeria was recognized as a member of the General Convention on Tariffs and Trade.

(GAAT) as soon as independence was declared, and expressed an interest in participating in this Convention.

As such, Algeria participated in the organization's various tours.
