Abstract EN

This research aims to study Ray Jackendoff’s book, “Semantics and cognition” in its translated Arabic version, translated by the linguist “Abderrazak Bennour”, in order to know some of the semantic concepts related cognition, which the author used in his book, which is considered a prominent scientific revolution in the contemporary linguistic lesson, in which Jackendoff linked Between linguistics and the cognitive sciences to build a cognitive semantic theory that explains the representation of meaning in the mind.

Therefore, we chose this book to read it descriptively and to present its terms and ideas using the descriptive method.

The study showed that Jackendoff built his semantic theory on two concepts: semantic structure and conceptual structure, which represent the mental level, by passing Chomsky’s centralization of syntax, and was the first who has linked between sensory perception and the mechanism of language acquisition and its use in the production of meaning
