Despite the existence of violence against women for a long time and all the suffering it causes, we find unfortunately that it has aroused the interest of scientific research only recently with the publication of articles about violence.

This delay is due in large part to resistance to cultural values that tolerate this violence and which have been a real handicap to research in this area.

Indeed, if violence against women is so entrenched in mentalities, it is because they are based on relationships of social domination that in history have left little freedom for women.

Through this article, we propose some historical facts that can help us understand this phenomenon
