This work falls within the most important study of cognitive linguistics.

As metaphor is one of its most important investigations, we will try to uncover the most important contemporary cognitive theories that have reconsidered the nature of metaphor and its cognitive role, namely the conceptual metaphor theory of George Lakoff and Mark Johnson.

Therefore, we will try to put the reader in front of the propositions that have made the core of the cognitive theory of metaphor.

In our work, we will focus on the most important expansions that Zoltán Kövecses has made in the conceptual theory of metaphor, where his addition lies in the attention to context to understand and interpret metaphor, which the original theory has relatively neglected.
