Abstract EN

This paper is concerned with the problem of modernization in political parties in contemporary Algeria, and it aims at trying to learn more about the incomplete process of modernization within them.

although it has been more than three decades since the end of the stage of partisan pluralism, the political practice of Algerian parties is still traditional and not institutionalized.

following this line of thought, sociological revelations posit that political parties that seek to exercise and seize power have not been able to liberate themselves from historical and revolutionary legitimacy as a source for their exercise of power and the tribal structures that constitute it.

this could be attributed to the nature of the existing political system that has modeled partisan political action on its own representations and has disrupted the modernization process in its transitional stages.

thus, the party institution remained imprisoned by patriarchal practices, the transition to neo-partisanship, and the generalization of clientelistic practices.

this refers to party formations that do not meet the institutionalized determinants (adaptation, complexity, independence, consistency) that made political parties search for a way out of the crises of modernization : the crisis of independence, legitimacy, the crisis of integration and political participation.
