Abstract EN

The research sought to clarify the approach of the Committee of Words and Styles at the Academy of the Arabic Language in dealing with words, methods, and structures borrowed from foreign languages, verbally or semantically.

The research showed that this dealing was summarized in four points: 1) Arabic equivalent nomination.

2) Acceptance of the wording, style, or structure borrowed through Arabization.

3) Acceptance of the borrowed word, style, or structure, as an intruder.

4) Translation.

The research followed a descriptive approach based on induction, classification, deduction, and analysis and tried to answer research questions, including: Have the Arabic equivalents of borrowed words, styles, and structures nominated by the Committee of Words and Styles achieved acceptance in use and circulation? Was the committee able to fill the lexical gaps in the contemporary Arabic lexicon through linguistic borrowing? Did the Committee use translation within the scope of necessity that the Academy stipulated in its decisions complementing the Arabization decision? The research presented an authentication of the emergence of linguistic borrowing and clarified the terms that were used in previous periods, namely: The Arabized, the intruder, and the causes and motives for linguistic borrowing, and then followed that with a statement of the position of the Academy of the Arabic Language in Cairo regarding Arabization, the intruder, and linguistic borrowing.

The research attempted to state: To what extent did the Arabic equivalent fit the Arabic linguistic environment? And astatement of the characteristics of the Arabic language acquired by profanity, methods, and structures through Arabization? Did the Committee decide on the separation between the Arabized and the intruder? And to what extent did the Arabic equivalents, the Arabized and the intruder, find their echo in the registration and writing in the language dictionaries of the Academy, especially Al-Mujam Al-Waseet in its updated edition (2020 AD)?.
