Abstract EN

Aims : the study aimed to identify the relationship between university youth addiction to Facebook and social isolation, and also to identify the youth's uses of Facebook and the gratifications gained from that use.

the study discussed the most important psychological problems of youth addiction to Facebook.

this study is considered one of the descriptive studies that relied on the social survey method for a sample of youth who use Facebook in Damietta governorate and Cairo, and the sample size is 400 individuals.

it also relied on compiling the study data on the questionnaire, which included a number of standardized questions.

results : the results of the statistical analysis reached a set of results, the most important of which are : there is a direct correlation between addiction to Facebook and social isolation, and it was found that the rate of Facebook use was very high at 84.3%, and this rise indicates extensive exposure to Facebook and the spread of the phenomenon of addiction to Facebook, as the results indicated that the most important social problems resulting from the use of Facebook are the distance from real life with an average value of 2.38, among the negative social and psychological manifestations of using Facebook, time wasted with an average of 2.59, while isolation from real life came with an average of 2.38, the results also show that the motive of occupying leisure time came at the forefront of ritual motives, the most important manifestations of addiction is the gradual lack of time allocated to my studies due to the use of Facebook, it came with an average of 2.42, while the frequent use of Facebook for long hours led to the tension of my family relationships with an average of 2.40.

recommandations : the researcher recommended the necessity of conducting several studies in the field of the impact of social networking sites on university youth, focusing attention in these studies on the impact of these sites on family life.
